You can normally support both a Microsoft Personal and a single Work or School account on the same Authenticator app and device, including using the cloud backup for either Android or iOS to perform backup for these along with a large number of additional ToTP code generator accounts for 3rd-party accounts.

"You can use Microsoft Authenticator for multiple accounts, including Microsoft personal accounts; work/school accounts; and non-Microsoft accounts, such as Amazon, Facebook, Instagram and Google."

Here's the instructions for the typical setup scenarios for both types of Microsoft, Work or School, or other accounts.

How to add your accounts to Microsoft Authenticator - Microsoft Support

Remember to search for and perform the backup using your personal account login to backup all of these authentication objects to either iCloud or via Android's device backup to the appropriate account, along with creating and storing multiple verification methods with alternate email, phone (text) and whatever other methods you can support including Windows Hello Face, Fingerprint or PIN, Passkey, etc. on your primary device if possible in case the phone containing the authenticator is lost or stolen, since no one can help you recover from a lost, stolen or damaged phone once 2-Step verification is enabled and required for your personal account.

There is no authenticator app for Windows.

I'm not quite sure what exactly is the issue?

To install Microsoft Authenticator on your desktop, you typically need to use it through a web browser rather than a standalone application, as the Authenticator app is primarily designed for mobile devices. However, you can manage your accounts and settings through the Microsoft Security info page.

Here are the steps to set up your account:

    1. Open a web browser on your laptop.
    2. Go to the Security info page.
    3. Sign in with your work account credentials.
    4. Follow the prompts to add your Authenticator app as a sign-in method if needed.

If you already have the Authenticator app installed on your phone, you can continue to use it for authentication purposes. For managing multiple accounts, you can add your work account directly in the Authenticator app on your mobile device.

For further assistance with setting up the Authenticator app or managing your accounts, refer to the Microsoft documentation.
