Recently i had installed a virus onto my computer and by the time i had realised it, some of my social media accounts including my microsoft account were compromised.

I regret this heavily but i panicked a lot when i tried to log into my minecraft account and it asked for the password of an email i had never seen before so i went ahead and logged out of my microsoft account and made a new one.

While doing this i didn't realise that my copy of minecraft was attached to my microsoft account and not actually my PC.

The email that is now hacked used to be [Mod Removed - PII]@gmail.com, but when i entered this email on the microsoft website it said that it didn't exist so i created a new one with that same name.

My old email that i don't have access to anymore had its name changed to [Mod Removed - PII].

When i try to log into minecraft it still asks me for the password of this account and when i try to put in my old password it says that its wrong.

When i click on "Forgot password" it asks me for an authenticator app code that i never set up unfortunately.

I realise that this is my fault due to me not setting up more security barriers for my microsoft account however i just want to know if there's any way i can get my account back :(

I'm okay with the thought of just letting go of my old account and making a new one just to buy minecraft again but i just wanna try this before i do that at least.

I appreciate all types of help as i just want to be able to play minecraft again.

Hey there! Nice to meet you!

I'm sorry you are experiencing this.

Based on your description, your Microsoft account was compromised. The hacker was able to remove the account's primary email address/security info and replace it with their own email address, which is why you received the error "account doesn't exist" when signing in.

The only way to recover a hacked Microsoft/Minecraft account is through the official Microsoft troubleshooter guide:

    https://support.microsoft.com/account-billing/how-to-recover-a-hacked-or-compromised-microsoft-account-24ca907d-bcdf-a44b-4656-47f0cd89c245

If the account recovery web form doesn't work, and since the security info has been replaced by the hacker, I'm afraid there is no other working method to recover the Microsoft account, and Microsoft Support cannot help either.

However, I would recommend reaching out to Minecraft Support regarding your Minecraft account if they can provide an alternative option:

    https://help.minecraft.net/hc/en-us/request/new?ticket_form_id=360001225811

    Thank you for your understanding.

    Best regards,

    Darhyl

To recover your hacked Microsoft account, follow these steps:

    1. Account Recovery: Go to the Microsoft account recovery page. You can start the recovery process by selecting "Forgot password?" on the sign-in page. Since you mentioned that it asks for an authenticator app code, you may need to select "I don’t have any of these" when prompted for the code. This will guide you through the recovery process.
    2. Provide Information: During the recovery process, you will be asked to provide information about your account, such as the email address associated with it and any other details that can help verify your identity. Make sure to provide as much accurate information as possible.
    3. Alternative Recovery Options: If you have set up any recovery options (like a phone number or an alternative email), Microsoft may send a verification code to those. If you haven't set these up, you may need to answer security questions or provide information about recent account activity.
    4. Contact Support: If the automated recovery process does not work, you can contact Microsoft support for assistance. They may be able to help you recover your account after verifying your identity.
    5. Secure Your Account: Once you regain access, make sure to secure your account by changing your password and enabling multifactor authentication (MFA) to prevent future compromises.

If you are unable to recover your account, creating a new Microsoft account may be necessary, but it’s best to exhaust all recovery options first.
