Firstly, note that the free upgrade from Windows 7 to Windows 10 officially ended July 29, 2016. However, Microsoft continued to allow such upgrades (the so called loophole) through Sept 20, 2023. Since that date there is no free upgrade path.

To upgrade now you would have to purchase the newer version. It is very difficult to find a legitimate copy of Windows 10 which has not been sold by Microsoft since Jan 31, 2023 and is no longer supported in any case.

If, nonetheless, you intend to pursue this you can find system requirements for Windows 10 here -

Installation media can be obtained here

Disregard the incorrect information in the Q&A assist post. You cannot upgrade by Windows update.

I will check your hardware compatibility for you to see if it is compatible with Windows 10, click your Start Button, then just type msinfo32.exe and press Enter, please provide a screenshot of the resulting System Information window.

To upgrade from Windows 7 to Windows 10 without losing any data, you can follow these steps:

    1. Backup Your Data: Before starting the upgrade process, it's always a good idea to back up your important files and data to an external drive or cloud storage.
    2. Check System Requirements: Ensure your computer meets the minimum system requirements for Windows 10. You can find the specifications on the Microsoft website.
    3. Use Windows Update:
      • Go to Control Panel > System and Security > Windows Update.
      • Check for updates. If your device is eligible for the upgrade, you should see an option to upgrade to Windows 10.
      • Follow the prompts to complete the upgrade process. This method is recommended as it uses a digital license.
    4. Microsoft Software Download Site: If you prefer, you can also download the Windows 10 installation media from the Microsoft Software Download site. This allows you to create a bootable USB drive or download an ISO file to upgrade your system.
    5. Follow the Installation Prompts: During the installation, choose the option to keep your files and apps when prompted. This will ensure that your data remains intact during the upgrade.
    6. Post-Upgrade Checks: After the upgrade is complete, check that all your files and applications are present and functioning correctly.

By following these steps, you should be able to upgrade to Windows 10 without losing any data.
