i have two things linked to this microsoft account, a minecraft account and an xbox account. These were made for my son when he was younger but now he is older and has his own microsoft account. How do i transfer the accounts over to his microsoft account so they are no longer tied to mine?

Hi ml, and happy New Year!

    Welcome to Microsoft Q&A!

I understand you want to transfer your Minecraft and Xbox accounts from your Microsoft account to your son’s Microsoft account. Unfortunately, the short answer is that you can't (at least not as of currently).

Microsoft accounts are identity-based, and purchases are permanently linked to ensure account security and the integrity of digital licensing. Xbox and Minecraft entitlements are securely integrated with the Microsoft account used at the time of purchase. These licenses are associated with your individual Microsoft identity and are not designed to be transferred between different accounts.

In addition, game progress and achievements are tied to the Xbox profile, not the game license. If your son has been playing on your Microsoft account, those cannot be moved to his account. I'm sorry to share this unfortunate news, but I think it's better to be truthful and direct.

Transferring accounts such as Minecraft and Xbox accounts between Microsoft accounts is not directly supported through a simple transfer process. However, here are the general steps you can take to manage the accounts:

    1. Create a New Microsoft Account: Ensure that your son's new Microsoft account is set up and ready to use.
    2. Linking Accounts: You may need to unlink the existing accounts from your Microsoft account. Users must have the ability to unlink publisher or service accounts from their Microsoft account. This can usually be done within the game settings or the Xbox settings, depending on the service.
    3. Account Migration: Unfortunately, there is no official method to transfer Minecraft or Xbox accounts to another Microsoft account. You may need to contact Microsoft Support for assistance with account management and to see if they can help with the migration process.
    4. Data Transfer: For games and services, you might need to manually transfer any saved data or progress, if possible, by following the specific guidelines for each service.
    5. Family Settings: If the accounts are part of a family group, ensure that the new account is set up under the appropriate family settings to manage online safety and privacy.

Since account linking and unlinking can vary based on specific services, it's best to refer to the official Microsoft support documentation or contact their support for detailed guidance on your specific situation.
