Hi there,
could you please clarify if you have a Microsoft 365 Personal/Family subscription or a Microsoft 365 Business subscription?
In general, if you are referring to a standard Personal or Family subscription, here is what happens when the subscription expires or is canceled:
- Your Office Apps (Word, Excel, etc.): The desktop applications installed on your computer will enter "reduced functionality mode." This means you can view and print documents, but you will not be able to edit them or create new ones.
- OneDrive Storage: Your storage limit will revert to the free 5GB tier.
- If you have more than 5GB of data stored: You will not lose your files immediately, but you will be unable to upload, edit, or sync new files.
- Important: If you remain over the storage limit for an extended period, Microsoft may eventually delete your files or freeze the account, and your Outlook.com email account may stop sending/receiving emails if the shared storage quota is full.
- Timing: If you turn off "Recurring Billing," your subscription will continue to work normally until the current billing cycle ends. If you select "Cancel immediately" (if eligible), the services stop right away.
If you have the Business version, let me know, as the data retention policies are different.
