Thanks for sharing the details! Recent Windows 11 builds silently prefer eSCL (AirScan) over WIA, and Canon MF scanners often fail under eSCL even though they still print.

Step 1 - Disable eSCL (AirScan) for the Canon scanner

    This does not break printing.

    Press Win + R

    Type:

    services.msc

    Find Windows Image Acquisition (WIA)

    Make sure:

    • Startup type = Automatic
    • Service status = Running

If WIA is not running, MF Scan Utility will NEVER work.

Step 2 - Remove the AirScan device (critical)

Open Settings → Bluetooth & devices → Printers & scanners

    Click your Canon MF printer

    Look for two scanner entries

    • One says AirScan / eSCL
    • One says Canon WIA

Remove ONLY the AirScan / eSCL scanner

    • Do NOT remove the printer
    • Do NOT remove the Canon WIA entry

    Restart the PC.

Step 3 - Lock Windows to WIA (registry fix)

This prevents Windows from re-adding the broken AirScan scanner.

    Press Win + R

    Type:

    regedit

    Navigate to:

    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\stisvc

    Right-click → New → DWORD (32-bit)

    Name it: EnableESCL

    Set value to 0.

    Restart Windows

Step 4 - Rebind MF Scan Utility manually

    • Open MF Scan Utility
    • Click Settings
    • Choose:
      Scanner: Canon MF (WIA)
      NOT AirScan
      NOT eSCL

    Save and test scan.

See if this helps. If you need further assistance just let me know.

    Best regards,

    Kimberly
