    Hello!

I'm Yasllame. I'm happy to help and clarify.

This error occurs because the new Outlook for Windows only accepts accounts that officially exist as work or school accounts in Microsoft Entra ID (Azure AD). The fact that the account works in classic Outlook does not mean it is recognized as a corporate account in the new Outlook.

    Key points to consider:

Classic Outlook allows adding Exchange accounts that are manually configured or hosted outside of Microsoft 365.

The new Outlook relies on modern authentication and automatic account verification with the Microsoft service.

If the email address is not registered as a work or school account, the new Outlook will display this error.

    What you can do:

Confirm with your IT administrator if the email exists as a valid account in Microsoft Entra ID.

If it is an Exchange account hosted outside of Microsoft 365, continue using classic Outlook, which still supports this type of configuration.

Test accessing your email via Outlook on the web (OWA) to confirm the account type.

If it's a personal account, add it as a Microsoft account, not a work account.

I hope this information was helpful! If you need anything else, I'm here.

    Sincerely,

To resolve the issue of receiving the error "we couldn’t find a work or school account with that email address" when trying to set up your email in the new Outlook for Windows, you can try the following steps:

    1. Check Email Address: Ensure that you are entering the correct email address associated with your Microsoft 365 work or school account during the setup process.
    2. Supported Account Types: Verify that your account type is supported in the new Outlook for Windows. The new Outlook supports Microsoft 365 work and school accounts, Outlook.com, Gmail, Yahoo, iCloud, and other accounts connecting via IMAP and POP. If your account is an on-premises Exchange account, it will not be supported.
    3. Re-sign into Accounts: If you are coming from classic Outlook, you may need to re-sign into accounts that cannot be automatically authenticated via Windows Single Sign-On (SSO).
    4. Create a New Alias: If you have a third-party account using the same email address, consider creating a new alias in Microsoft 365 and using that alias to set up Outlook.
    5. Update Outlook: Ensure that you are using the latest version of Outlook, as older versions may not support the necessary features for connecting to Exchange Online.

If these steps do not resolve the issue, you may need to consult with your IT department or Microsoft support for further assistance.
