Hi,

I am trying to log onto Canvas through my college (University of Central Florida). It signs me in through Microsoft, and I keep getting this message. Please let me know how to fix it, classes start this week.

AADSTS50020: User account from identity provider 'https://sts.windows.net/5b16e182-78b3-412c-9196-68342689eeb7/' does not exist in tenant 'University of Central Florida' and cannot access the application 'http://webcourses2c.instructure.com/saml2'(WebCourses) in that tenant. The account needs to be added as an external user in the tenant first. Sign out and sign in again with a different Azure Active Directory user account.

I figured it out! It looks like if you sign in with another account using this address: [insert your nid]@ucf.edu and use your normal password. It should let you in. I think this is how they added in the multi-factor authentication to secure the accounts? It prompted me to download the Microsoft Authenticator app once I logged in successfully. The process is really weird and goes in a circle a bit, but everything seems to work on my end. Just have to sign in with that weird email address containing your NID.

This issue can happen due to multiple reasons.

If you have logged in to edge browser with some other account and if you are trying to login to portal with different credentials it will show up this error message.

You can try login to edge browse with same account using which you are trying to login to portal with.

Or this issue can also happen when you are trying to login to any other portal in which your account is not present. In this case you have to provision your account as a guest account in the directory.

Or you can also fix this issue by using below URL,

    https://portal.azure.com/#@<my tenant domain>

Let me know if you have any further questions on this.

    Hi

I have a similar issue with one of my staff members.

She can successfully log into Office365. She is already been set up as a user in Canvas and has been assigned courses, has received emails to say she has been attached to her classes, yet when she tries to get into Canvas, there is a fatal error which says her email doesn't exist in Canvas.

    Please help.
