    Hi Christy - Cleaning Valkyries

From your description, i think the adapter driver may be getting removed or replaced during the update process. A good first step is to confirm that you’re using the latest driver directly from your device manufacturer rather than the generic Windows driver. You can download and install the OEM driver manually, then disable automatic driver updates to prevent Windows Update from overwriting it.

Another option is to open Device Manager, select View > Show hidden devices, and check if the adapter is listed but disabled. If it appears grayed out, right-click and enable it. If it’s missing entirely, use Action > Add legacy hardware to reinstall the adapter manually.

Additionally, I recommend running the Windows Update Troubleshooter and checking the update history to see if a specific cumulative update is consistently causing the removal. If so, pausing updates until the OEM driver is patched may save you time.

For a more permanent solution, you can also try updating your system BIOS/firmware, as outdated firmware sometimes causes recurring hardware detection issues after OS updates.

Please let me know if these steps help restore your adapter more reliably. If you find this answer helpful, kindly hit “Accept Answer” so we know the guidance worked for you and feel free to let me know if you need any assistance. Thank you

To restore your missing Ethernet adapter in Windows 11, you can try the following steps:

    1. Uninstall the Network Adapter: Go to Device Manager, find your Ethernet adapter under "Network adapters," right-click it, and select "Uninstall device." After uninstalling, restart your computer, and Windows should automatically reinstall the driver.
    2. Use the Add/Remove Hardware Tool: If the adapter is still missing after a system update, you may need to use the Add/Remove Hardware tool in Control Panel to reinstall the network adapter. This is particularly useful if the adapter was changed without proper uninstallation.
    3. Check for Windows Updates: Sometimes, the issue can be resolved by ensuring that all Windows updates are installed. Go to Settings > Update & Security > Windows Update and check for updates.
    4. Rebuild Network Configuration: If the above steps do not work, you might want to consider resetting your network settings completely. You can do this by going to Settings > Network & Internet > Status > Network reset.
    5. Driver Updates: Ensure that you have the latest drivers for your Ethernet adapter. You can download the latest drivers from the manufacturer's website or use Windows Update to find them.

If these steps do not resolve the issue, it may be beneficial to check for any specific compatibility issues with your hardware and Windows 11 updates.
