Hi Beth Brown,
If your new Windows 11 machine cannot see the server, the most common causes are related to network discovery, firewall settings, or domain/workgroup configuration. First ensure that your PC is connected to the same network as the server and that Network Discovery and File and Printer Sharing are enabled under Advanced Sharing Settings. Next, check that the Windows Defender Firewall allows inbound connections for file sharing and SMB.
If your server is part of a domain, confirm that your Windows 11 machine has been joined to the same domain and that your account has the necessary permissions. If it’s a workgroup environment, make sure both devices are in the same workgroup and that credentials are aligned. You can also try accessing the server directly by typing \\servername or \\serverIP into File Explorer’s address bar to bypass browsing issues.
Once these settings are verified, your Windows 11 machine should be able to detect and connect to the server.
