A delay after a VPN connection and Windows 11 uses the new routes

Hi

I use Windows 11 Home 21H2 to access my corporate network using OpenVPN connect client 3.3.6 (2752).

I'm not using any kind of a firewall.

The problem is: The VPN client starts to pass traffic after waiting around one minute after it shows successfully connected

I checked what route was used to reach the <destination IP> using

tracert <destination IP>

Right after the VPN connection for one minute the non-VPN gateway is still used.
After one minute the VPN gateway is finally used.

I checked the routing table using 'route print' and the required VPN routes were active. But for some reason it took one minute for Windows to actually use them.

It worked immediately on Windows 10 and Windows 7.

That makes me think that the problem is with Windows 11 and not with the VPN software.

Is there some routing cache that needs to be cleared in Windows 11?

Could someone please direct me towards a solution.

Thank you.

The solution that worked for me was to disable IPv6. In Windows 11, go to Control Panel > Network and Internet > Network Connections > Local Area Network > Properties. Scroll down to "Internet Protocol Version 6 (TCP/IPv6)" and disable it.
