I purchased a new desktop computer running Windows 11 Pro with a fresh copy of Microsoft Office 365 Premium. When I use Excel it constantly freezes when I try and change font size. It happens with every spreadsheet. I tried uninstalling the application, rebooting the computer and reinstalling with a fresh download, but the problem persists. How do I fix this?

    Hi Stephen,

Does the Excel file have Macros?

Press Windows+R keys on the keyboard, or Right-click Start on the Taskbar and choose Run.

    Type excel.exe /safe

    Press Enter.

This opens MS excel in safe mode. Please let me know if the safe mode Excel works properly.

If Excel is freezing when you try to change the font size, here are some steps you can take to troubleshoot and potentially resolve the issue:

    1. Online Repair: Since you have already tried uninstalling and reinstalling, performing an online repair may help. To do this:
      • Close all Office apps.
      • Go to Settings > Apps > Installed apps.
      • Find Microsoft 365, click on the three dots, and select Modify.
      • Choose Online Repair and confirm.
      • This process can take 15-30 minutes, so be patient.
    2. Check for Updates: Ensure that your Office applications are up to date. Sometimes, updates can fix bugs and improve performance.
    3. Disable Add-ins: Sometimes, add-ins can cause Excel to freeze. You can disable them by:
      • Opening Excel and going to File > Options > Add-ins.
      • At the bottom, select COM Add-ins and click Go.
      • Uncheck all add-ins and restart Excel to see if the issue persists.
    4. Check for Conflicting Software: Ensure that no other software is conflicting with Excel. Antivirus programs or other background applications may cause issues.
    5. Hardware Acceleration: Disabling hardware acceleration can sometimes resolve freezing issues. To do this:
      • Go to File > Options > Advanced.
      • Scroll down to the "Display" section and check the box for "Disable hardware graphics acceleration."
      • Restart Excel.

If the problem continues after trying these steps, you may want to consider reaching out to Microsoft support for further assistance.
