My existing Word files have all been converted to DOCX files and when I open them, they are in some type of Chinese character format. How can I convert them back to .doc files

If you start Word first, can you then access these files via File > Open > Browse?

To convert DOCX files back to the older DOC format, you can follow these steps in Microsoft Word:

    1. Open the DOCX file in Microsoft Word.
    2. Click on File in the Ribbon.
    3. Select Save As.
    4. In the Save as type dropdown menu, choose Word 97-2003 Document (*.doc).
    5. Choose the location where you want to save the file and click Save.

This will convert your DOCX file back to the .doc format. If you are experiencing issues with the files displaying in an unreadable format, it may be worth checking if the files are corrupted or if there are compatibility issues with the version of Word you are using. You might also consider trying to repair the document if it continues to show strange characters.
