It is 2026, why does Word not have a calendar available for the current year?

The only available banner calendar is still for 2025 despite it being the 16th of January 2026. You won't let people create their own or edit the year and then cannot be bothered to provide an up to date calendar with the new year.

As for "why", you won't find a definitive answer here, where all the folks are users and not Microsoft employees.

As an educated guess, things like calendars and citation styles that should be updated on a regular schedule are just not that important to Microsoft managers. The company had a massive employee layoff last year, and it seems everyone else is too busy with Copilot to spare any attention for anything else.

Charles Kenyon has given you good information, which he has posted many times in response to questions about Microsoft calendars.

It just seems so basic that the calendar templates would update to 2026. They are trying to force us to use copilot and I don't want to! I am old school. I like to use a template and customize with my photos, colors, important dates. I don't want some crappy AI doing what I want to do!

Microsoft used to have macro-enabled templates that let you set the year or month and have the dates adjust. The information for some templates still refers to the Calendar tab. It has vanished, though. They have stopped offering those, perhaps because people were afraid of the macros.

As of January 13, at least, this is a fixed year template set to 2025, which would require a tremendous amount of editing to be used.

Per Bob Jones, apparently, in the Mac interface, the template named "Calendar" also still contains the macros and the Calendar tab as in the description.

If you have used a macro-enabled template from Microsoft in the past for this, it should still be on your computer in the folder you have designated as the default location for saving custom office templates.

When you use one of the templates from Microsoft, it is stored there.

I expect that sometime in January Microsoft will come out with 2026 calendars. This is based on experience since they discontinued the macro-enabled calendar templates.

There are good free alternatives available.

You can use the free calendar add-in from former Word MVP Greg Maxey that you can download from here: https://gregmaxey.com/wonrd_tip_pages/calendar_maker_addin.html This has several choices of formats.

You can also find free 2026 calendars on MVP Jay Freedman's download site. (https://jay-freedman.info/) These are simple macro-free templates.

You can find a free perpetual calendar maker add-in on MVP Graham Mayor's site. This allows a choice of background colors.

These templates are from trusted experts and have been used by thousands of users.

Microsoft is not hearing about your problems from what you post here. You are discussing a problem with your fellow users here. We can give good advice about how to work with Word as it is and give suggestions for making it work properly.

Designers and their supervisors do see feedback. (You will almost certainly not get a direct response to that feedback but they do see it.)

You can comment and vote if you want. I do not expect this to change, though. I recommend using the items from Jay Freedman, Greg Maxey, or Graham Mayor.

The reason you are not seeing a calendar for 2026 in Word is likely due to the fact that the template you are using is outdated. The available templates, such as the Horizontal calendar (Sunday start).dotx, do not support macros and have not been updated to include the current year. As a result, they may still display the previous year's calendar.

To create a calendar that can be configured for any year, you can download an add-in specifically designed for this purpose. This add-in will allow you to generate a calendar for the current year and beyond, as the built-in templates may not reflect the latest updates.
