I no longer have print options on my HP printer

I develop graphics and have to print these out before sending them to a commercial printer. As of this afternoon (Jan 15 2026), I am out of business as the HP printer I had that was working fine no longer has options I need to resize, check print quality (select quality and paper type). In fact, this is the most primitive driver I have ever experienced. If I do not check the "Let the application determine printer parameters" I cannot even print in color.

This is simple: 7 hours and attempting to find a driver that provides the functionality I had previously is impossible. Both HP and Microsoft have colluded to remove features I had previously. I am an ex IT person and know at this point that Microsoft and HP have carefully closed every possible option and that is called collusion. I am asking for a fix that restores the printer driver I had.

Yeah, that sounds like Windows auto-switched you to the “HP class” driver after an update, which is super barebones. Try removing the printer completely, then download and install the full HP feature driver for your exact model from HP’s site, not the Windows one. Also turn off automatic driver updates in Windows so it doesn’t replace it again. That usually brings back the paper, quality, and color controls you’re missing.

If you are experiencing issues with print options on your HP printer, there could be several reasons for this. Here are some potential causes and solutions:

    1. Printer Capabilities: Ensure that your printer supports the options you are trying to use. If the printer does not have certain features built-in, those options will not be available.
    2. Universal Print Compatibility: If your printer is not reporting its capabilities correctly to Universal Print, you may not see all the options. This can happen if the printer does not support those options with Universal Print.
    3. Application Limitations: Some applications may not expose all available print options in their user interface. They might only show a common set of options, regardless of what the printer supports.

If you find that a specific print option you need is not available, consider submitting a feature request to Microsoft to have that option added in future updates. You can do this by checking if someone has already created a request for the same option and up-voting it instead of creating a new one.

Additionally, if you are using a specific driver that is not functioning as expected, you might want to check if there are updates available for your printer driver or consider reinstalling it to restore previous functionalities.
