Hi curtis fleenor,
Welcome to Microsoft Q&A!
I know it’s frustrating when audio stops working after a Windows reset, especially when the Realtek driver disappears completely. Normally, update the drivers or Windows like what the Q&A Assist suggested would fix this issue.
But if they don't work, or you would like to check out other options: you can manually install Realtek audio from your laptop manufacturer. This method is sometimes considered more reliable since audio drivers are customized per device model:
- Choose your manufacturer:
- Lenovo: Driver manual update
- Dell: Drivers & Downloads | Dell US
- ASUS: Download Center | ASUS Global
- HP: Official HP® Drivers and Software Download
- If your device is different, manually search online for it.
- Enter/look up your laptop model number > select Drivers / Audio.
- If you see the Realtek Audio driver > download and install > Restart PC.
- Press Win + R > type
services.msc> press Enter > find:- Windows Audio
- Windows Audio Endpoint Builder
- If they are already Running, right-click > choose Restart.
