Hello, thank you for reaching out to Microsoft Q&A.

There is no free version of Office desktop apps. To use office apps for free, you will have to use the Online version - https://www.office.com/

    Cancel Office 365 Subscription:

    • To cancel the Office 365 Microsoft Subscription, go to the Services & Subscriptions page here https://account.microsoft.com/services and sign in with your Microsoft account.
    • Select your Office 365 Subscription, click Manage > then, then click Cancel Subscription.

If you only use Office Word and Excel, you can purchase the perpetual version of the Office Home 2024 license, which includes the desktop versions of Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and OneNote.

    https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/microsoft-365/p/office-home-2024/cfq7ttc0pqvj

This is a perpetual license for a single PC.

To switch to a free version of Microsoft 365, you can consider signing up for Microsoft 365 Education if you are a student or checking if your school offers free access to Microsoft tools. However, if you are not eligible for the education version, there isn't a direct free version of Microsoft 365 available for general users. You might want to explore alternatives like using the free online versions of Word and Excel available through Office.com, which provide basic functionality without a subscription.

If you are looking to downgrade your current subscription to a less expensive plan, you can manage your subscription through your Microsoft account and choose to cancel your current plan, but this won't necessarily lead to a free version.

For more specific guidance on managing your subscription, you can refer to the Microsoft support pages.
