Azure Student Account No VMs

I have just created my azure student account but I am unable to do anything. Most of the regions are "Ineligible" and I get a "recommended region". The problem is that even for this recommended region I get no vm sizes available. All sizes are either "Blocked by Policy" or "Size unavailable" (When I go to the information bubble, it says the size is unavailable for my subscription).
What options do I have? What can I do to be able to create VMs?

    Hi Victor,

Azure for Students restricts which regions you can deploy resources to. Typically you are restricted to five different regions, and these vary for each person. Please confirm that you are trying to create VM in one of your allow regions.

Please navigate to Azure Policy -- Authoring -- Assignments using link below:

    https://portal.azure.com/#view/Microsoft_Azure_Policy/PolicyMenuBlade/~/Assignments

Click on assignment named Allowed resource deployment regions

    User's image

Examine Allowed locations Parameter value for list of regions, similar to below (regions in screenshot are different than yours):

The regions shown in your Parameter value are the ones you are allowed to deploy resources to. Please try to create resources in one of these regions and let me know the results.

    Thanks.

I am writing to report a recurring issue regarding the AI-900 learning path exercises, which I am experiencing alongside many other students.

Per my student policy, I am restricted to specific regions and the B-size VM family. However, as noted in numerous recent forum posts, the regions currently available do not offer the B-series (or any compatible alternative) as an option. These instances appear to be phased out or unavailable, making it impossible to complete the exercise as currently written.

This is a significant oversight in the curriculum that requires immediate escalation to the technical content team.

To ensure a swift resolution, I ask that you please:

Avoid generic troubleshooting steps, as this is a capacity and policy alignment issue rather than a user error.

Perform a live test using a standard student-tier account to verify that the recommended regions no longer support B-series deployments.

I look forward to a substantive update once this has been escalated to the appropriate department.

I verified and my subscription is activated (Status = Active). I selected the recommended region (also the only region I am able to select), which is also part of the regions I should be allowed to deploy ressources (I checked the policy "Allowed ressource deployment) and I do not have any available sizes to select (A1_v2 is the only one that appears, but it appears under "Size not available"). I want to mention that I also registered the following ressource providers: Compute, Network, Storage and some others.

    Hello Victor Rusu,

Thank you for reaching out Q/A. We understand your concern about not being able to create Virtual Machines in your Azure Student subscription.

Please note that Azure Student subscriptions come with limited access to regions, VM sizes, and quotas. Some VM families are blocked by policy, and certain regions may not support VM creation for student offers. This is expected behavior for this subscription type.

Even in the recommended region, VM sizes can appear as “Unavailable for this subscription” due to capacity or policy restrictions.

To proceed, we recommend the following:

    • Try a different eligible region where VM deployment is supported.
    • Select basic VM sizes such as B-series, which are more commonly available under student subscriptions.
    • Verify that your student subscription is fully activated and that required resource providers are registered. If you require broader VM access, consider upgrading to a Pay-As-You-Go subscription, which provides full access to VM families and regions.

Hope this helps! Please let me know if you have queries in comments.
