I bought a stand-alone liftetime license for Microsoft Office 2021. Suddenly, it is frozen and insists I sign up for 365

I bought a stand-alone lifetime license for Microsoft Office 2021. Suddenly, it is frozen and insists I sign up for 365 before I can proceed, OR I can sign in - apparently to a 365 account only, because I am ALREADY signed in to my Microsoft Office account and would have to sign out to sign in!

I don't know what to do to get this working. I am retired and have no need for 365, but I do want to be able to do the things I was doing with my lifetime license. Thanks anyone who can help me troubleshoot this.

Hi, I'm John! I will help you with this.

Are you able to see your Office 2021 under the Services & subscriptions page here: https://account.microsoft.com/services (make sure you’re signed in with the same Microsoft account you used to activate Office)?

If you can see it there, please follow these steps below.

If you haven't already, I’d suggest is to uninstall any existing Office apps on your Mac to avoid conflict:

    Then, to reinstall Microsoft Office:

    • Go to https://account.microsoft.com/services
    • Sign in using the same Microsoft account linked to your license.
    • Find your Microsoft Office 2021 and click the "Install".
    • That will download the installer for the Office apps, just run it and follow the steps.

If anything’s unclear or the "Install" option still doesn’t show, feel free to let me know. I’ll be happy to walk you through it!

I really hope this information is helpful! Let me know if you have any further questions or concerns.

    Regards,

    John J.D.

It sounds like you're experiencing an issue with your Microsoft Office 2021 license where it's prompting you to sign in to a Microsoft 365 account. Here are some steps you can try to resolve this issue:

    1. Check Your License: Ensure that you are using the correct version of Office that corresponds to your lifetime license. If you have a different edition installed, you may need to uninstall it and reinstall the correct version.
    2. Sign Out and Sign In: If you're being prompted to sign in, try signing out of your current Microsoft account and then signing back in with the account associated with your Office 2021 license. Make sure you're not trying to sign in with a Microsoft 365 account unless that's what your license requires.
    3. Repair Office: You can try repairing your Office installation. Go to Control Panel > Programs > Programs and Features, select your Office installation, and choose the Repair option.
    4. Reinstall Office: If the issue persists, consider uninstalling and then reinstalling Office 2021. You can use the Microsoft 365 Uninstall troubleshooter to help with this process.
    5. Contact Support: If none of these steps work, you may need to contact Microsoft Support for further assistance, especially if you believe your license should not require a Microsoft 365 subscription.

These steps should help you troubleshoot the issue and regain access to your Office 2021 applications without needing to sign up for Microsoft 365.
