Hello,

When I try to drag and drop an email from my inbox into my calendar, I receive the error message: "Failed to create event from drag and drop." This issue started after I switched to the new Outlook.

Could you please advise on how I can resolve this?

Thank you.

I had the same issue with the new outlook and find out the solution.

With the email selected, from the "home" menu, click the right-most three dot, and then select "Respond" -> "Meeting". This will open a Meeting notice with the sender's email in the participants field. However, if you delete the sender's email, the "send" button will become "save", and you can save it into your outlook calendar just as in the old outlook.

    Hope this helps.

I have been using the new outlook for 12 months + and have gotten to love it... but this error started happening around December for me too - which has me opening the old outlook to create events from emails... which is incredibly painful. This was working fine for me prior to then.

Hi Nakaranee, I appreciate you reaching out about this. The issue happens because the new Outlook uses a different architecture than the classic version, and some features like drag-and-drop from mail to calendar aren’t fully supported yet. A quick fix you can try is using the “Create event” option from the message toolbar or right-clicking the email and selecting “Create event.” Also, make sure your Outlook app is updated to the latest version since Microsoft is rolling out improvements gradually. Can you confirm if you’re using the desktop app or the web version? And do you have any add-ins installed that might affect calendar actions?

The error message "Failed to create event from drag and drop" when trying to drag and drop an email into your calendar in the new Outlook could be due to several reasons, including limitations in the drag-and-drop functionality or potential issues with your Outlook setup.

Here are a few steps you can take to troubleshoot and possibly resolve the issue:

    1. Check Compatibility: Ensure that the drag-and-drop feature is supported in the version of Outlook you are using. The new Outlook on Windows supports drag and drop for certain actions, but it may have limitations compared to the classic version.
    2. Update Outlook: Make sure that your Outlook application is up to date. Sometimes, bugs are fixed in newer versions.
    3. Restart Outlook: Close and reopen Outlook to see if the issue persists. This can sometimes resolve temporary glitches.
    4. Check Add-ins: Disable any add-ins that might interfere with the drag-and-drop functionality. You can do this by going to File > Options > Add-ins and managing your add-ins.
    5. Try Different Methods: If drag-and-drop continues to fail, consider using the right-click context menu to create a new event and manually copy the email details into the event.

If the problem persists, you may want to reach out to Microsoft support for further assistance, as they can provide more specific guidance based on your account and setup.
