How do I update operating system from Windows 7 to Windows 10, the exe file will now activate

In this case, do I recommend doing a clean installation for Windows 10 rather than updating using the USB method?

If you have previously updated the key that is on the OEM computer, it will be activated in the Windows 10 version.

If it is a desktop you have made any hardware changes such as the motherboard, you will lose the attached license and you will have to purchase a new Windows license.

The free upgrade from Windows 7 SP1 to Windows 10 ended on July 29, 2016. In addition, Microsoft ended sales of Windows 10 on January 31, 2013.

What that means for you is that you need to somehow get hold of a Retail copy of Windows 10 (that has a valid product license) and do a clean install of Windows 10 onto your computer.

However, you shouldn't attempt that unless you are confident that Windows 10 has drivers for your computer;s hardware.
