Why doesn't notepad allow me to select it as a default for .json files?

some help said I could use assoc to set the association - doesn't help. (for json either, which is more standard, but really I want to associate text files that end with .jsox with notepad)

Edition Windows 11 Pro

Version 25H2

Installed on ‎11/‎10/‎2025

OS build 26200.7623

Experience Windows Feature Experience Pack 1000.26100.275.0

Seems I used to be able to do this - why doesn't notepad want to open the file with an association?

I can easily just type 'notepad blah.jsox' and it opens just fine.
