- Right-click on the Start menu and select Disk Management.
- Find your external hard drive, right-click on it, and choose Format. Choose NTFS as the file system for compatibility with Windows.
- Assign a Drive Letter: If the drive does not have a letter assigned, you can do this in Disk Management:
- Right-click on the external hard drive and select Change Drive Letter and Paths.
- Click on Add and choose a letter from the dropdown list, then click OK.
- Set the External Drive as Default Save Location: You can change the default save location for your files:
- For applications like Microsoft Office, open the application, go to Options, and set the default file location to your external hard drive.
- For Windows, you can change the default save locations for documents, music, pictures, etc., by going to Settings > System > Storage > Change where new content is saved.
- Backup Your Work: To ensure all your work is saved daily, consider using backup software or Windows File History to automatically back up your files to the external hard drive.
By following these steps, you can effectively use your external hard drive as the primary storage for your files.
