Attempted unauthorised access attempt not showing up in 'recent activities'?

I just received a Microsoft Authenticator notification from the United States requesting access to my Hotmail account. I am located in Australia and therefore denied it. I quickly jumped on and changed my password.

When I go to security and look recent sign in activity it does not show the attempted access from the United States. it only shows my own authorised access and password change. Why is this? I am really unnerved by this.

Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks

It’s understandable to feel concerned about unauthorized access attempts. When you receive a notification from Microsoft Authenticator for a sign-in attempt, it may not always appear in the recent sign-in activity for a few reasons:

    1. Timing of Updates: There can be a delay in the system updating the recent activities. Sometimes, it takes time for unauthorized attempts to be reflected in the activity log.
    2. Security Measures: If the sign-in attempt was blocked (as it should be since you denied it), it may not be logged as a successful attempt in the recent activities. Microsoft prioritizes security and may not log every denied attempt.
    3. Location and Device Recognition: If the sign-in attempt was from a location or device that Microsoft recognizes as suspicious, it may trigger security protocols that prevent the attempt from being logged in your account's activity.

    To enhance your account security:

    • Ensure that your security information is up to date.
    • Consider enabling additional security measures, such as two-factor authentication if not already enabled.
    • Regularly review your account's security settings and recent activities.

If you continue to have concerns, it may be beneficial to contact Microsoft Support for further assistance.
