I upgraded my Microsft 365 Family version and was charged full amount even though my current Microsoft 365 Personal membership did not expire until November 2026. Will I receive a refund on the older version of Microsoft 365 PersonalI upgraded from?

If you did not cancel the Personal subscription first, on the link below they provide the details of what happens when you upgrade to a version of Microsoft 365 that has more features like going from the Personal version to the Family version, you are charged for the new subscription, then the remaining days on your previous subscription should be converted to the new subscription on a pro-rata percentage basis.

Log into your Microsoft account on this link, check the expiry date on the new subscription, is it now indicated as more than the 1 year subscription?

When you upgrade from Microsoft 365 Personal to Microsoft 365 Family, you may be charged the full amount for the new subscription, even if your previous subscription has time remaining. Typically, Microsoft does not automatically issue refunds for the remaining time on the older subscription after an upgrade. However, you can contact Microsoft Billing Support to inquire about the possibility of a refund or credit for the unused portion of your Microsoft 365 Personal subscription.

To reach out to Microsoft Billing Support, you can visit their support page, sign in to your Microsoft account, and follow the prompts to connect with a live agent who can assist you with your billing concerns.
