Hello, I created a Windows 11 single-app kiosk using Microsoft Edge in full-screen mode and enabled the setting “Refresh browser after idle time” with a value of 1.

Now, every 30 seconds, a pop-up appears asking me to stay on the site or or close the browser. We need to disable this pop-up, as it is very annoying. The kiosk was set up using Intune. I attempted to disable the pop-up with the following settings, but it was not successful.

    Hi @DavidAR,

    Welcome to Microsoft Q&A forum.

Thanks for the detailed description and screenshot, I understand how disruptive that “Stay on this site / Close browser” prompt can be in a kiosk scenario, especially when the kiosk is intended to run unattended.

Does the prompt appear only when the “Refresh browser after idle time” action kicks in, or does it also appear if you manually refresh/close the page in a normal Edge session (non‑kiosk) while on the same site?

The message you’re seeing is typically a navigation/refresh confirmation dialog (often caused by the website preventing unload/refresh), not a standard “pop-up window” or desktop notification. That’s why blocking pop-ups/notifications via Edge content settings may not affect it.

Below are a few steps you can try:

    1. Validate the kiosk setting is the cause
      • Temporarily increase the idle refresh value (for example, from 1 to a higher value) and observe whether the dialog appears less frequently. This helps confirm it’s tied to the idle refresh cycle.
    2. Preferred approach for digital signage: refresh within the website
      • If this is a signage-style kiosk, consider handling refresh inside the web app/page (instead of relying on the kiosk idle refresh). This approach is commonly suggested for signage scenarios where the refresh prompt is undesirable.
      • For example, update the content dynamically (polling, AJAX, live data updates) so the page doesn’t need to “leave/reload” in a way that triggers confirmation.
    3. If you control the site, check for “leave page” protection
      • Many sites display a “stay/leave” dialog when they register logic to warn users before closing or refreshing (often used to protect unsaved changes). If your kiosk page sets that flag unintentionally (even when nothing is being edited), removing or limiting that logic for kiosk sessions usually resolves the prompt.
    4. Confirm your Edge kiosk experience type
      • Edge kiosk supports different lockdown experiences (Digital/Interactive Signage vs Public Browsing). Ensuring the intended kiosk type is used can help avoid policies or behaviors that negatively affect the kiosk experience.

If you confirm the prompt is tied specifically to the Intune kiosk “Refresh browser after idle time” behavior and you can’t change the website behavior, I recommend opening a support request with Microsoft so they can validate whether there’s a supported way to suppress that dialog in Edge kiosk/Assigned Access.

Thank you for your patience and understanding throughout this process. Should you have any questions or need further assistance, feel free to reach out at any time.
