I'm not able to download/use a previously purchased game on my new windows device, despite being signed in to the exact same microsoft account on both devices.

I have had to buy a new computer as my other crashed. Now I am trying to download a game I purchased in July 2025 on my new computer, but in Microsoft Store it says I can't because I already purchased it. I tried to download it through Xbox and the same thing it takes me to Mic rosoft Store and the same thing happens. I even tried to purchase it again but same answer (you already own this game).

Can you please help me with this problem?

    Hi @Dianne Duff,

    Welcome to Microsoft Q&A forum.

I'm sorry you’re running into this. As you described, when you replace a PC, your purchase is still tied to the Microsoft account that bought it, but the Microsoft Store/Xbox app can sometimes fail to refresh the license or the Store components needed to install.

Please try the steps below in order:

1/ Confirm you’re signed into the correct purchasing account

    • Go to your order history and verify the game appears there: account.microsoft.com/billing/orders.
    • If it’s missing, you may be signed into a different Microsoft account than the one used to buy the game.

2/ Install from Microsoft Store “Library” (not just the product page)

    • Open Microsoft Store > Library and look for the game, then select Install.

3/ Update Windows and update Microsoft Store apps, then restart

    • Check Settings > Windows Update and install all updates, then in Microsoft Store > Library choose Get updates.
    • Restart the PC after updates.

    4/ Reset the Store cache

    • Press Win + R, run wsreset.exe, then reopen Microsoft Store and try again.

5/ Running the Gaming Services Repair Tool to address install or update issues affecting the Xbox app on PC.

    • If the tool will not run, update Windows, as older 22H2 builds may require Local Administrator.

[At that point, it may require an account level or license validation that cannot be completed in a public forum. Please contact Microsoft or Xbox Support for a private check of the purchase entitlement and device association and avoid posting personal or billing information publicly. You can start here: Contact us Xbox Support ]

Should you have any further questions, please feel free to reach out.
