Email received regarding updating Hotmail to 2026 version

I received an email instructing me to update my Hotmail account to the 2026 versions. When I clicked to update it took me to an address where Hotmail was spelled wrong (Hottmaal.sellfy.store), so I quickly clicked off. Is this a legitimate site? Do I really need to switch to an updated version of hotmail?

It appears that the email you received is likely a phishing attempt. Legitimate emails from Microsoft regarding account updates will not direct you to a site with a misspelled name like "Hottmaal.sellfy.store." Microsoft typically uses official domains such as microsoft.com for communications. If you receive such emails, it's best to avoid clicking any links and to report the email as phishing.

As for updating your Hotmail account, there is no requirement to switch to a new version unless you choose to do so through official channels. Always ensure that you access your account through the official Microsoft website or app to avoid scams.
