Hello, thank you for reaching out to Microsoft Q&A.

Please note that Windows 10 Pro (version 1709, build 16299.492) was released in 2017 and is already a very old release of Windows 10 itself. To upgrade to Windows 11 directly from Windows 10, your device must be running at least Windows 10 version 2004 or later.

Please note that you are already five feature updates behind version 2004, and it will be very difficult to upgrade your PC to Windows 11 automatically from Windows 10 using Windows Update or the Installation Assistant from this stage. So, if your device meets all the system requirements for Windows 11, you can create a bootable Windows 11 USB installation media and use it to perform a clean installation of Windows 11. Make sure you back up all of your files before installing Windows 11 from USB installation media.

To check if your device can run Windows 11, run the PC Health Check app here: https://aka.ms/GetPCHealthCheckApp

If all the tests pass and your device meets the minimum system requirements, you can clean install Windows 11 using USB installation media.

To update to Windows 11 from your current version of Windows 10 Pro (version 1709, build 16299.492), you will first need to ensure that your system meets the minimum requirements for Windows 11. Here are the steps you should follow:

    1. Check Windows 11 System Requirements:
Ensure your PC meets the following minimum hardware requirements:
      • Processor (CPU): 1 GHz or faster, 2 or more cores, and on the list of supported 64-bit CPUs.
      • Memory (RAM): 4 GB or more.
      • Storage: 64 GB or larger storage device, with additional free space recommended.
      • System Firmware: UEFI firmware with Secure Boot capability.
      • TPM: Trusted Platform Module (TPM) version 2.0 enabled.
      • Graphics & Display: A graphics card compatible with DirectX 12 or later.
      • Operating System: Your PC should be running Windows 10 version 2004 or later to upgrade directly via Windows Update.
    2. Update Windows 10:
Since you are on version 1709, you need to update to at least version 2004 before you can upgrade to Windows 11. Go to Settings > Update & Security > Windows Update and check for updates. You may need to install several updates to reach the required version.
    3. Use the PC Health Check App:
Download and run the PC Health Check tool from Microsoft to confirm compatibility with Windows 11. This tool will tell you if your PC can run Windows 11 and highlight any issues that need to be addressed.
    4. Upgrade to Windows 11:
Once your system is updated to a compatible version of Windows 10, you can upgrade to Windows 11 via Windows Update. Go to Settings > Update & Security > Windows Update and check for the Windows 11 upgrade option.

If the upgrade option does not appear, you may also consider using the Windows 11 Installation Assistant or downloading the ISO file to create installation media.

Make sure to back up your important data before proceeding with the upgrade.
