How to disable/remove Copilot from operating in Word?

I have build # 2601 of Word. The pesky, intrusive Copilot doc editor that operates on the left side of a document does nothing but mess up my documents. It thinks it knows what I want to do and just unilaterally does it ahead of me, which just messes up my document. I type a lot in foreign languages, which often requires different formatting, which Copilot does not understand. It keeps trying to block or correct changes I want to make, as one might in English. I tried turning it off, but there are no boxes or switches to click, not even in privacy settings in connected services. I even asked the AI to help me figure out how to disable Copilot for Word, but it was unable to find a way to turn it off or remove it. I want to remove any AI from my Word documents. How do I do this? Please put an "OFF" switch back in Word!! I even went into my 365 account to unpin it. NO SUCCESS!! It is still as active as ever. Please help me remove the monster!!

To get rid of Copilot entirely, you can switch to a Microsoft 365 Classic plan, or you can buy Office 2024 with Outlook or without Outlook, neither of which include Copilot.

I updated Word to the latest available version, and there is no dialogue box in this version (2601).
