Please clarify, as there is mixed information on the internet saying as of 2026 there are no hands-on labs in it. As an AZ-900 holder and SC-900 in process, is the exam structure of AZ-500 the same, or does it contain hands-on labs in environments?

Because labs can be removed at any time due to Azure outages, bandwidth issues, etc., Microsoft does not provide a list of exams with labs. When you register for the exam, you will be provided with the exam time. When you launch the exam, carefully review the overview pages that provide information about what to expect on the exam, including if labs are available.

The AZ-500 exam, which focuses on Microsoft Azure Security Technologies, does indeed contain hands-on labs. As of the latest information, exams that include labs will have at least one lab, and each lab typically contains between 7 to 15 tasks. The presence of labs is intended to provide a practical assessment of your skills in a real-world environment.

Regarding the structure of the AZ-500 exam compared to the AZ-900 and SC-900 exams, the AZ-500 will include performance-based testing through these labs, while the AZ-900 and SC-900 exams are more focused on theoretical knowledge without hands-on labs. Therefore, you can expect a different exam experience with the AZ-500 due to the inclusion of these practical components.

It's also important to note that the exam structure may change, so it's advisable to check the official Microsoft certification pages for the most current information before your exam date.
