I didn't realize that a credit card a rarely use has been billed annually for an Office 365 personal subscription. Do I really need this subscription?

Cancelling your Office 365 personal subscription will have several consequences:

    1. Loss of Access: You will lose access to the Office applications (like Word, Excel, and PowerPoint) and any additional features provided by the subscription, such as OneDrive storage, once the current billing period ends.
    2. Data Accessibility: If you have files stored in OneDrive or other Microsoft services, you may lose access to these files once your subscription expires. It's important to back up any important data before cancellation.
    3. No Future Charges: Cancelling the subscription will prevent any future charges to your credit card, which is beneficial if you no longer need the service.
    4. Reactivation: If you change your mind, you can reactivate the subscription later, but you will need to go through the process of signing up again.

If you're uncertain about needing the subscription, consider whether you regularly use the Office applications or the cloud storage features. If not, cancelling might be a good option for you.

You need a Microsoft 365 subscription to back up more than 5GB of data to OneDrive. Go to onedrive.com, then check the lower left of the page to see how much storage you are using.

If you cancel your subscription, you will need to stop the backup of your folders in Manage Backup (see the link below), and remove those folders from the OneDrive folder and restore them to their default locations. The OneDrive folder is located at C:\Users\Username\OneDrive.

Make sure all your files are available on your device before you remove them from the OneDrive folder. Cloud-only files (those with a blue cloud) are not available on your device and don't exist without OneDrive.
