So I am getting into fivem server hosting those not familiar with fivem its a game server like GTAV but online with other people and I have a few questions. First is there a way I can get DDOS protection on my home server for these game servers? Second how much does it cost? The server it self will be set up at my home and I was just wondering if I can get DDOS protection for the game servers them selves

Simple answer: no. It's not possible to get ddos protection for a server you host at your home.

Unless you want to subscribe the following:

GRE tunnel.

/30 IPv4 range.

DDoS protection.

All this must be from same provider and there are a few conditions that must be met:

your server won't be using your home IP address, but the IP from provider. This means that inbound and outbound will flow on the GRE tunnel.

your server won't have the same bandwidth speed has you have at your home place. By example, if you have 1GBit (up and down), your server won't have that speed (unless you want to spend a LOT of money).

you need to have a fixed IP address at your home.

the latency to your server will increase a lot. Your players connection to your server won't go directly to your home. But, instead, they go to the provider and then to your home on the GRE session, then back under the same path. (To continue)

For example, if you have 20ms from your home to the provider, expect your players to have at least 40ms of latency.

We provide Anti-DDoS GRE tunnels. But only to clients where latency is not an issue.
Game servers need low latency for players to play decently.

We can provide a tunnel like that for around 125€/monthly for a 100Mbit connection.

The most effective way to protect your server is by placing infrastructure in front of it. Relying solely on your hosting provider’s mitigation is not the best approach because, like OVH, they can sometimes block legitimate clients during mitigation events.

A better solution is to use proxy servers combined with Cloudflare to distribute traffic across multiple proxies. fiveshield.co does this very well, and it becomes even more secure when used with an OVH origin server thanks to the network edge firewall rules they provide.
