Processes in Microsoft 365 for setting up Office apps, redeeming product keys, and activating licenses.
Hi Janet,
Good day. I'm Jhun an independent advisor. MacOS Tahoe version 26 is supported right now for Microsoft 365 installations and updates. Since yours is 26.3, you should be able to properly install it and run Office. Let's try to do these fixes below.
A. Use the official installer.
- Remove any current Office installs completely: Quit all Office apps. Delete them from /Applications. Optionally remove related support folders in ~/Library (like com.microsoft.*). This helps clear out corrupted leftovers.
- Download the latest Office installer from: https://www.office.com > Sign in > Install Office. This ensures you’re getting the correct build for your subscription.
- Use a different browser if needed, Safari tends to cache old installer files, try chrome.
B. Sometimes macOS blocks apps from unidentified sources. Clear installer issues.
- Go to System Settings > Privacy & Security > scroll to Security.
- If you see Microsoft Office blocked, click Allow/“Open Anyway”.
C. Try to install Microsoft 365 while your Mac is in Safe Mode.
D. Check for Updates.
E. If Word/Excel/PPT installs but wont launch and immediately quit, try toggling Rosetta. Right-click app > Get Info > enable “Open using Rosetta”. This sometimes helps if the installer isn’t recognized as native.
F. Last Resort. Try to create a new macOS user account and install Office from that new account. If this works, the problem is with your main user's settings.
Lastly, can you list your Macs complete hardware specifications?
Regards,
Jhun
