Hello,

After updating to KB5078127 (OS Builds 26200.7628 and 26100.7628) on January 24, 2026, Windows Explorer no longer displays PDF files in the preview pane and in the PDF file display MS Access form database.

Please help.

Thank you.

Sohail

First you have to enable previews in adobe. Then select the file in windows explorer, right click, go to properties, then check unblock at the bottom where it says 'security'.

The thing is though, you can only unblock one file at a time...... and you still have to wait a minute or two after unblocking before you can actually preview it................

    Hi, good day!

This change was intentional from Microsoft as they’ve disabled File Explorer’s preview feature for files downloaded from the internet as a security measure, preventing any risk of login details being exposed when previewing certain files.

This forum is where members can communicate with one another. The ideal solution would be to use the Windows Feedback Hub app to report the issue to Microsoft. If many users report this problem, they may introduce an option to disable this new security measure.

To fix the issue with the Windows Explorer preview pane not displaying PDF files, you can try the following steps:

    1. Enable Preview Pane Support: Ensure that the preview support for PDF files is enabled in PowerToys. You can do this by setting the extension to On in the PowerToys settings.
    2. Check Windows Explorer Settings: In Windows File Explorer, go to Options, then under the View tab, make sure that Show preview handlers in preview pane is selected. This setting allows the preview pane to display file previews correctly.
    3. Re-enable the Preview Pane: If the preview pane is not functioning, you can try re-enabling it. Open Windows Explorer, click on View in the ribbon, and select Preview pane to toggle it on.
    4. Check for Conflicts: Be aware that enabling preview handlers may override other preview handlers already installed, which could lead to incompatibility issues. If you have other applications that provide PDF previews, consider disabling them to see if that resolves the issue.
    5. Restart Windows Explorer: Sometimes, simply closing and reopening Windows Explorer can resolve temporary glitches.

If these steps do not resolve the issue, you may need to look into whether the update has caused any specific compatibility problems with your PDF viewer or consider rolling back the update if necessary.
