System Mechanic is flagging my Microsoft 365 update as containing

The name is TR/Mediyes.Gen and the path is long, but ends in office16\AI\aimgr.exe

Running Windows 11 (upgrade) on a Dell PC, with a Microsoft 365 family subscription.

I have the option to restore or delete, and I feel like restore is probably the proper action because it is coming from Microsoft downloads, but I'm leery.

Should I just restore it from the quarantine spot?

thanks

When dealing with a file flagged as malware, especially one that is part of a legitimate software package like Microsoft 365, it is important to proceed with caution. The file path you mentioned, office16\AI\aimgr.exe, is associated with Microsoft Office, which suggests it is likely a legitimate file. However, the detection of TR/Mediyes.Gen indicates that your antivirus software has flagged it as potentially harmful.

Here are some steps you can take:

    1. Verify the Source: Ensure that the file is indeed from a legitimate Microsoft source. You can check the file properties to confirm its origin.
    2. Run a Full Scan: Use Windows Defender or another reputable antivirus program to perform a full system scan to ensure there are no other threats present.
    3. Check Online Resources: Look up the specific detection (TR/Mediyes.Gen) to see if it is a known false positive. Sometimes antivirus programs can mistakenly flag legitimate files.
    4. Restore with Caution: If you decide to restore the file, monitor your system closely for any unusual behavior. If you notice any issues, consider deleting the file and reinstalling Microsoft 365 to ensure all components are legitimate and up to date.

If you're uncertain, it might be safer to delete the file and reinstall the software, as this ensures you have a clean version without any potential threats.
