While on a Zoom meeting, my camera changes (zooms) if I move.

I could not find how to fix this in my computer settings OR Zoom video. When looking in FAQ's, my explanation must have been awful because I was never able to differentiate between a zoom meeting and my camera zooming in. Lastly, I will admit to being tech inadequate and would really appreciate anyone's help.

    Hello,

Does this happen only with Zoom app, or does it happen if you use the Camera app too? This will help us determine if the issue needs to be adjusted in Zoom settings, or is it a broader settings issue.

When you check auto-framing, did you check in Zoom Video settings

    User's image

There's also auto-framing settings via Windows you want to check. You can go to Windows Settings > Bluetooth & devices > Cameras, click on your camera. On the next page, also look for Automatic framing and turn it off. Depends on your device's hardware, you may or may not also see Eye Contact option, if so, turn it off too.

The camera auto framing was off, and the camera still zooms while in a Zoom Meeting

The behavior is caused by the camera’s auto‑zoom/auto‑framing feature, not by Zoom (the meeting app). Disable the camera’s zoom/auto‑framing in Windows and in the camera app so it stops zooming when there is movement.

    Try these steps on Windows:

    1. Open the Windows Camera app and turn off zoom/auto‑framing
      1. Open Start > Camera.
      2. Select the Settings icon in the top‑left corner.
      3. Under Camera settings, turn off any options related to:
        • “Show advanced controls for photos and videos” (then look for zoom/auto‑framing inside those controls), or
        • Any “framing grid” or similar that might be tied to auto‑framing.
      4. Under Photo settings and Video settings, make sure the quality is set as desired but no automatic zoom or framing options are enabled.
    2. Check system camera settings
      1. In the Camera app Settings, if there is a link to Camera settings (Windows 11), select it, or open it directly via Start > Settings > Privacy & security > Camera.
      2. Ensure the correct camera is selected and look for any vendor‑specific controls (sometimes exposed there) that mention zoom, auto‑framing, or tracking and turn them off.
    3. Test in the Camera app
      1. With the Camera app still open, move around a bit.
      2. If the image no longer zooms in/out or reframes when moving, the camera is now fixed and Zoom meetings will use that same behavior.

If the camera still zooms after this, the remaining controls are likely in the camera manufacturer’s own software (for example, a webcam utility installed with drivers). In that case, open that utility from the Start menu and disable any “auto‑framing,” “face tracking,” or “auto zoom” options there.
