Hi there. I tried linking my PayPal account to my annual Microsoft *** subscription, from the Microsoft payment methods options on Microsoft, but it wouldn't allow me to add anything but a card payment. It may be because I’m based in South Africa? Not sure. I also tried adding Microsoft under “Automatic Payments” in PayPal, but it didn’t give me the option to set it up there either. Could you please help me set up a recurring PayPal payment for my Microsoft *** subscription from your side? My Microsoft renewal is coming up soon and I want to be able to pay it with paypal as I do for many other subscriptions currently. Thanks

PayPal can only be used with Microsoft subscriptions if it is an accepted payment option in the region and if the PayPal account itself meets Microsoft’s requirements.

    From the available information:

    • PayPal must have a credit card or confirmed bank account as a funding source to be used with a Microsoft account.
    • If PayPal is not shown as an available option when adding a payment method for the subscription, it indicates that only card payments are supported for that account/region or scenario.

Because the payment options are controlled by Microsoft’s billing system and regional availability, recurring PayPal payments for the subscription cannot be set up “from the support side” if PayPal is not offered as a payment method in the subscription’s billing page.

    To proceed:

    1. Ensure the PayPal account has a valid funding source (credit card or confirmed bank account).
    2. Go to the Services & subscriptions page at https://account.microsoft.com/services while signed in with the correct Microsoft account.
    3. Open Manage for the subscription and check the available payment methods. If PayPal is not listed, only the shown methods (such as credit/debit card) can be used.
    4. If the subscription ever becomes past due because a card expires, follow the “Pay now” flow on the Services & subscriptions page to update the card or add a new valid payment method.

If PayPal does not appear as an option at step 3, the subscription must be paid with one of the supported methods (typically a card) rather than a recurring PayPal payment.
