Hello ADITYA NATH TIWARI (CORPORATE IT),

Thank you for letting us know that C drive access errors are occurring on some Samsung Galaxy Book 4 laptops in the Windows 11 Professional 25H2 environment following the Windows updates released on February 27 and March 11. If the same issue is occurring on more than 50 devices, it is difficult to resolve the situation with a simple format.

First, it is necessary to verify that the Windows updates were installed correctly and to check if the latest cumulative updates have been applied. Additionally, please review the disk permission settings to confirm whether access is possible with an administrator account. Since there is a possibility that the security software or Group Policy used by your company may have changed during the update process, checking the policy application status may be helpful.

If business applications such as QuickBooks, Office, or MES programs are affected, it is recommended to install the latest versions of those applications and compatibility patches. If the problem persists, submitting a support request directly to the engineering team through the Microsoft Support Portal is the fastest way to resolve the issue.

    Thank you.

This issue matches a known problem affecting some Samsung Galaxy Book 4 and Samsung Desktop devices running Windows 11 24H2 and 25H2 after installing the February 2026 security update KB5077181 and later updates. The symptom is exactly the “C:\ is not accessible – Access denied” error, with apps like Outlook, Office, browsers, and system tools failing to start.

Key points from the current status:

    1. Root cause
      • Microsoft and Samsung have identified the cause as an issue in the Samsung Galaxy Connect app, not in the Windows updates themselves.
      • The problem appears on specific Samsung models, including Galaxy Book 4 devices, after routine actions such as accessing files or launching applications.
    2. Scope and impact
      • Affects Windows 11 versions 24H2 and 25H2 on certain Samsung devices.
      • Once the issue occurs, devices can lose access to the C: drive, and in some cases it is not possible to elevate privileges, uninstall updates, or collect logs due to permission failures.
    3. Current mitigation status
      • The problematic Samsung Galaxy Connect version has been temporarily removed from Microsoft Store to prevent new installations.
      • Samsung has republished a stable previous version of the Galaxy Connect app to prevent recurrence on additional devices.
      • Recovery options for devices that are already impacted are currently described as “limited”. There is no published, general-purpose automated fix yet.
    4. Recommended next steps for an affected fleet
      • For devices not yet impacted but in scope (Samsung Galaxy Book 4 / listed desktop models on Windows 11 24H2/25H2):
        • Ensure the stable previous version of Samsung Galaxy Connect is deployed instead of the affected version.
        • Block installation or reinstallation of the problematic Galaxy Connect version if it is still present in any internal software distribution systems.
      • For devices already impacted (C: drive access denied):
        • There is no detailed remediation procedure published yet; recovery options are explicitly stated as limited.
        • For device-specific recovery guidance, contact Samsung enterprise/support channels, referencing this known issue and the affected models/Windows versions.
      • For overall planning:
        • Monitor the Windows 11 24H2/25H2 release health pages for updates. Microsoft is collaborating with Samsung to develop and validate solutions for already-affected devices and will update the documentation as new remediation steps or tools become available.

Given that more than 50 laptops in the environment are affected and formatting each device is operationally difficult, the current official guidance is to work directly with Samsung support for recovery options and to follow future updates on the Windows release health documentation as Microsoft and Samsung publish concrete remediation steps.
