Hi. I'm David, and I'm happy to help you.

    Please clarify the following:

    • Do you have a third-party antivirus installed? If yes, which one?
    • Do you have any VPN software installed? (Even if it's not running at the moment) If yes, which one?

Also. What is the version and "OS Build" of your Windows 11?

    • Press "Windows + R", type winver, and click OK.

If you prefer, share a screenshot. Use the shortcut "Windows + Shift + S" to use the screenshot tool.

Be sure to censor your email address if it appears. The Microsoft Q&A is public.

    Looking forward to your reply.

Use the built-in Windows Update troubleshooters and general update repair steps.

    1. Run the Windows Update troubleshooter
      • Select Start > Settings > System > Troubleshoot > Other troubleshooters.
      • Under Most frequent, select Windows Update > Run.
      • When it finishes, restart the device.
      • After restart, go to Start > Settings > Windows Update > Check for updates and try updating again.
      • If issues persist, run the troubleshooter a second time.
    2. Use the Get Help Windows Update troubleshooter
      • On Windows 11, run the automated troubleshooter in the Get Help app using the Run the troubleshooter in Get Help link from the Windows Update troubleshooting article. It will run diagnostics and attempt to fix most update problems automatically.
    3. Apply general troubleshooting steps Before deeper repair, back up important files (for example with Windows Backup or OneDrive) as recommended in the update troubleshooting guidance. Then:
      • Ensure all important updates and drivers are installed (open Settings > Windows Update and install anything offered).
      • Remove nonessential external hardware (USB drives, printers, docks, etc.) and try the update again.
      • Temporarily uninstall non-Microsoft antivirus and any old/nonessential software that might interfere with updates (via Control Panel > Programs > Programs and Features), then retry the update.
    4. If updates still fail
      • Follow the additional steps under Troubleshoot problems updating Windows for Windows 11, starting from the General troubleshooting section to continue resolving Windows Update issues.

If at any point a specific error code appears, use the Windows upgrade and installation errors article to look up that code and follow the targeted steps listed for it.
