Windows Server 2008 R2 "Failed to load dcpromo dll"

Hello

When trying to gracefully uninstall a running DC I get the Error "Failed to load dcpromo dll".

The server should keep running after removing the DC role.

I'm a bit at a loss as what the procedure should be in this case.

As far as I understand it running ntdsutil woul remove all references to the DC from the Domain, but would not help me remove the Role from this one machine.

Much appreciated

Metadata cleanup removes data from AD DS that identifies a domain controller to the replication system. Worst case you could rejoin the domain, but keep in mind that windows is already in a broken state on this instance.

If you cannot run dcpromo or remove roles from Server Manager then the only exit is metadata clean-up
