Hello Experts,

FAX Driver Installation through USB crashes Spooler on OS Windows11(24H2) but installs successfully on Windows11 (23H2) OS. We tried several times, but same problem occurs.

Event logs shows Fault module name: usbmon.dll.

Is there any new changes that needs to be added in Driver side for successful USB installation specifically on Windows11(24H2) OS or shall we wait for the Windows11 new build version to confirm the same?

Thanks

    Hi kumari divya(TSIP TTEC_MFP),

I understand how frustrating this is, especially when the same driver works fine on Windows 11 23H2 but consistently crashes the Print Spooler on 24H2. Based on the symptoms you described and the event log pointing to usbmon.dll, this is what can be happening:

    • Windows 11 24H2 introduced different driver isolation and changes in the print/USB monitoring stack
    • The usbmon.dll driver is not validated for Windows 11 24H2, even if it worked on 23H2
    • A driver-level compatibility issue, not a corrupt OS or user configuration.

Unfortunately, if that's a faulty or incompatible USB fax driver, there is no Windows-side confirmed fix. If the vendor has not updated the driver for Windows 11 24H2, Windows will continue to crash the spooler. Here's what you should check next:

    1 - Look for a Windows 11 24H2–certified driver

    • Visit the official website of the fax device for driver package
    • Search for notes mentioning the 24H2 or Latest Windows 11 build
    • If only Windows 11 is listed without version, it's likely still in 23H2-era.

2 - Install without USB connected

    • Run the installer without the fax connected.
    • Plug in the USB cable when explicitly prompted
    • Try a non‑USB installation path (if device supports)
      • Network / TCP-IP install
      • WSD or IP-based fax/print driver

3 - Test using a Microsoft inbox driver (for confirmation)

    • Add the device manually
    • Choose a generic Microsoft FAX or printer driver
    • If spooler stays stable, it further confirms the vendor USB driver is the trigger

Overall, waiting for newer build of Windows likely doesn't matter in this situation. The permanent fix must come from the device manufacturer updating the driver. If you want, let me know the exact make/model of the fax device, I can help look into its combability.
