To view and work with text messages from an Android phone on a Windows 11 PC, use the Phone Link app and ensure messaging is fully enabled.
- Confirm the phone is linked
- On the PC, open Phone Link (search for “Phone Link” from Start).
- Make sure the Android phone shows as connected.
- Turn on message access in Phone Link
- In Phone Link on the PC, go to Settings > Features > Messages.
- Turn on these toggles:
- Allow this app to show text messages from my phone
- Allow this app to send MMS attachments from my phone
- Allow this app to receive MMS attachments from my phone
- Automatically download MMS attachments from my phone
- Optionally turn on:
- Show notification banners
- Badge on taskbar
- View and copy an entire text conversation on the PC
- In Phone Link, select Messages in the left pane.
- Choose the conversation to view all messages.
- To transfer the text content, select the message text with the mouse and use Ctrl+C to copy, then Ctrl+V to paste into a document, email, or note on the PC.
- Send or forward messages from the PC
- In Phone Link, select Messages.
- To start a new conversation, select New message.
- Enter the contact name or phone number, select the contact, then type and send the message.
- If messages still do not appear
- On the Android phone, open the Link to Windows app and ensure it is signed in with the same Microsoft account as the PC and that permissions for Messages/SMS are allowed.
- On the PC, use the Phone Link troubleshooting guidance if issues persist: see the “Send and receive text messages from your PC” and “Setting up messages in the Phone Link” articles, and follow any linked troubleshooting tips.
This setup lets the PC display and copy entire text messages from the phone; no separate “file” needs to be transferred for the text itself.
