We mainly use SQL Server to store the data. The actual data work will be processed by Python and R.

2023-06-08T03:24:23.47+00:00 We are a start-up lab so that we might not have budget to purchase a fully-licensed SQL Server for now. We are not really making a product for anything. It's for data storage and management purposes for our research topics. If that's not recommended, we might want to go by SQL Server Express or other open-source database tools then.

If you're not using it for commercial purposes, I think you can use SQL Server 2022 Developer Edition.
