A video editing tool developed by Microsoft, designed to make video creation easy and accessible for everyone.
For Clipchamp’s installed app failing with GL001 while the web version works, focus on browser/Edge configuration, security features, and system resources, as these commonly block Clipchamp’s editor from starting.
Try the following in order:
- Whitelist Clipchamp and check Edge “Added security” / tracking prevention
- In Edge, open Clipchamp (personal version) and ensure the site is whitelisted:
- For personal accounts, whitelist
https://app.clipchamp.com/. - For work/school accounts, whitelist the organization’s SharePoint or OneDrive URL (for example,
https://contoso.sharepoint.com/).
- For personal accounts, whitelist
- In Edge, click the Added security or lock icon next to the address bar when on Clipchamp.
- Find Tracking prevention for this site and turn tracking prevention off for Clipchamp.
- Reload Clipchamp and test again.
- To review/manage exceptions, go to
edge://settings/privacy/trackingPreventionExceptions.
- In Edge, open Clipchamp (personal version) and ensure the site is whitelisted:
- Disable or whitelist privacy/ad‑blocking/translation extensions
- Some extensions block technologies Clipchamp needs.
- Either disable all extensions temporarily or explicitly whitelist Clipchamp:
- For personal accounts, whitelist
https://app.clipchamp.com/. - For work/school accounts, whitelist the organization’s SharePoint/OneDrive URL.
- For personal accounts, whitelist
- After changing extension settings, restart the browser and reload Clipchamp.
- Free up memory and ensure enough disk space
- Close other browser tabs and applications to free RAM; low memory can prevent projects from loading or the editor from starting correctly.
- Ensure there is enough free space on the internal drive for Clipchamp’s temporary files and video processing. Available free space should exceed the total size of the video files used in projects.
- Clear browser cache and restart Edge/Chrome
- Sign out of Clipchamp.
- Clear cached images and files (time range: All time) following the Edge or Chrome cache instructions.
- In the address bar, run
edge://restartorchrome://restartto fully restart the browser. - Sign back in and reopen Clipchamp.
- Advanced browser troubleshooting (if comfortable)
Only if using Clipchamp in a browser and earlier steps did not help:
- Repair Edge via Settings → Apps → Microsoft Edge → Modify → Repair (this redownloads and reinstalls Edge; existing sessions may require re‑authentication).
- Update network adapter drivers.
- Temporarily disable third‑party antivirus (keep the OS’s built‑in antivirus on) to see if it is blocking Clipchamp.
- Reset Chrome/Edge flags:
- Go to
chrome://flagsoredge://flagsand select Reset all.
- Go to
- Turn off hardware acceleration in the browser:
- Go to
chrome://settings/systemoredge://settings/system/systemSubPage#GraphicsAcceleration. - Turn off Use graphics acceleration when available.
- Restart the browser and try Clipchamp again. If other sites misbehave, turn this back on.
- Go to
- Reset all browser settings:
- Go to
chrome://settingsoredge://settings→ Reset settings → Reset settings to their default values (this may sign out of sites and change behavior).
- Go to
If the app still fails after these steps but the online version continues to work, continue using the web editor as a workaround and provide Microsoft Support with details of the GL001 error, plus which of the above steps have been tried, so they can investigate environment‑specific issues.
