    Hi ,

If it is a laptop or desktop, if possible, could you provide the laptop model or your desktop configuration?

Is it an internal camera in the laptop or an external one via USB?

Do you have any third-party antivirus software?

    Thanks

Follow these steps in order on Windows 11 when the laptop camera works only sometimes and apps/meetings cannot use it or troubleshooting fails:

    1. Restart the PC completely
      • Select Start > Power > Restart.
      • Do not just close the lid or use Sleep; a full restart is required.
    2. Test the camera in the built‑in Camera app
This checks if the problem is Windows or a specific meeting app.
      1. Open Start > Camera.
      2. If asked, allow access to the camera.
      3. Check if the preview works and stays on.
      • If the camera works here but not in meetings, the issue is with the meeting app’s settings.
    3. Check for Windows and driver updates
      1. Go to Start > Settings > Windows Update > Check for updates.
      2. If available, select Advanced options > Optional updates and install any camera/webcam driver updates.
      3. Restart the PC after updates.
      4. Test again with the Camera app and then in the meeting app.
    4. Update the camera driver in Device Manager
      1. Right‑click Start and select Device Manager.
      2. Expand Cameras.
      3. Right‑click the laptop camera and select Update driver.
      4. Choose Search automatically for drivers and let Windows install anything it finds.
      5. Restart the PC and test the Camera app again.
    5. Run the Camera troubleshooter (if available)
      1. Open Start > Settings > System.
      2. Select Troubleshoot > Other troubleshooters.
      3. Find Camera and select Run.
      4. Apply any fixes it suggests, then restart and test.
    6. Check antivirus or security software
      • Some antivirus/firewall tools can block or “lock” the camera so apps cannot use it.
      • Open the antivirus app, look for camera/webcam or app‑control settings, and temporarily disable protection or camera blocking.
      • Test the Camera app and a meeting again.
      • Re‑enable protection after testing.
    7. If the camera is black or freezes
      • Make sure the lens is not covered by a privacy shutter or tape.
      • Clean the lens.
      • If video is black or the camera freezes often, repeat the driver update steps above and test in multiple apps.

If the camera works reliably in the Camera app after these steps but still fails in a specific meeting app, adjust that app’s camera settings (select the correct camera device in its settings) or reinstall that app.
