To open an old Microsoft Office Binder or .OBD file, treat it like a compressed archive using a utility such as 7-Zip. Because these files were designed to hold multiple Office documents in a single container, you can often right-click the file and select the option to extract the contents to a new folder. This allows you to bypass the need for the original, long-discontinued Microsoft Binder application and prevents potential software conflicts.

Once you have extracted the contents, you will likely see several files without recognizable extensions, often named simply as Document, Book, or Presentation. To access the actual data, you must manually append the appropriate legacy file extensions to these extracted components. For example, you would rename a file containing text to end in .doc for Microsoft Word or a spreadsheet file to end in .xls for Excel. Modern versions of Office or open-source alternatives like LibreOffice can then typically open these renamed files without issue.
