The Microsoft Certified: Azure AI Engineer Associate certification is scheduled for deprecation on June 30, and several of its modules have already been retired. I would like to pursue an updated Microsoft certification focused on AI engineering in Azure. Could you please recommend the latest certification path for AI on Azure?

The new certification that replaces AI-102, is AI-103 and will be launched in beta later this April

The currently available Azure AI engineering certification is still Microsoft Certified: Azure AI Engineer Associate, which is scheduled to retire on June 30, 2026.

Key points from the current program:

    • The Azure AI Engineer Associate certification validates skills to design and implement Azure AI solutions using Azure AI services, Azure AI Search, and Azure OpenAI, including NLP, speech, computer vision, knowledge mining, and generative AI.
    • It is an intermediate-level, role-based certification for AI engineers working with Azure, focused on building, deploying, integrating, and maintaining AI solutions and applying responsible AI principles.
    • The associated exam is AI-102, which is also scheduled to retire on June 30, 2026.

Regarding an updated or replacement path:

    • The certification and its exam are listed as “scheduled to retire,” but no successor or replacement Azure AI engineering certification is described in the provided information.
    • Microsoft’s general pattern is to retire credentials when technologies and role expectations change, and to introduce new credentials separately; however, no new Azure AI Engineer replacement certification is documented in the given context.

Given the available information, the latest and still-current Azure AI engineering path is:

    1. Prepare for and earn Microsoft Certified: Azure AI Engineer Associate (exam AI-102) while it remains available.
    2. Monitor the official credential retirement and certification pages for announcements of any new AI-focused Azure certifications that may replace or succeed this credential after its retirement date.
