In Windows 11, the taskbar can only be positioned at the bottom of the screen.

Taskbar alignment settings allow changing where the icons appear on the taskbar (centered or left-aligned), but there is no setting to move the entire taskbar itself to the left or right side (or top) of the screen.

To change icon alignment (not taskbar position):

  1. Right-click the taskbar and select Taskbar settings (or open ms-settings:taskbar).
  2. Expand Taskbar behaviors.
  3. Use Taskbar alignment to choose Center or Left.

The taskbar will remain at the bottom in all cases.

This is a major annoyance. I have always positioned my taskbar on the right side of the screen to gain the extra 1/4 of vertical screen space. The width of a laptop screen versus the height makes it a no-brainer that some users may want to put the taskbar on the right. Really, how hard would it have been to keep the right-side as an option? I can't imagine it would have been too technologically taxing. Microsoft please return this option to our Windows 11 product in an upcoming update!!
