Please fix this snipping tool - size too big on paste

This is no good.

The pasted screen shot is much bigger than the actual image. This takes me time on every screen shot. That is silly. Fix this. I like Greenshot much better. Keep this the same size as the actual. Why make it bigger every time. That is a waste of time. Fix.

The pasted screenshot is the actual size of the image. What you saw originally was smaller because it was compressed.

Check your settings for the app. What version are you using?

    Hi GSolvesIT,

I understand how frustrating it is to resize every pasted screenshot, especially when other tools seem to handle it more intuitively. Before getting further, I need to clarify: the Snipping Tool itself does not enlarge or resize screenshots. The way they appear depends on the application you paste into. Many third‑party tools compensate for DPI scaling, so the pasted image looks closer to the size you expect, which is why they feel more seamless out of the box.

That said, your expectation for a built‑in Windows tool to behave consistently is completely reasonable. However, please note that Microsoft Q&A is just a user‑to‑user support forum, limited to providing software fixes on technical issues. Moderators, contributors, including external Microsoft staff, don’t have access to back‑end systems nor design decisions. Given that limitation, the most effective way to request a change is through official feedback channels:

    • Press Win + F on your PC to open Feedback Hub.
    • Describe the paste‑size behavior and suggest improvements.

I know this isn’t the instant fix you were hoping for, but it's the quickest way for your request to reach the development team.

Snipping Tool itself does not have a setting to control the zoom level when pasting into another app. The “too big on paste” behavior is usually caused by display scaling or text/app size settings in Windows, which make captured images appear larger than expected when viewed at 100% zoom in apps like Word, Outlook, or other editors.

To reduce how large pasted snips appear, adjust Windows scaling so that apps and images are closer to their “actual” size:

    1. Open Settings (Windows logo key + I).
    2. Select System > Display.
    3. Under Scale & layout, change Scale to a lower value (for example, from 150% down to 125% or 100%).
    4. Sign out and back in if prompted.

If text is then too small, increase only the text size instead of overall scaling:

    1. Open Settings > Accessibility.
    2. Select Text size.
    3. Move the Text size slider to the right to enlarge text and select Apply.

This keeps UI text larger for readability while reducing how oversized screenshots appear when pasted.

If the main issue is editing or resizing after capture, Snipping Tool can hand off to Paint for more precise size control:

    1. After taking a snip, in Snipping Tool select Edit > Edit with Paint.
    2. In Paint, resize the image to the desired pixel dimensions, save, and then paste or insert that saved image where needed.
